The Financial Crisis has another lesson for us

When those who understand the complexities of an issue do not do a good job educating us in the public about the nuances of any particular crisis and the effects of each reaction, people in turn react with shortsightedness and self protection. Chaos results, vengeful feelings take control and these feelings that govern our thoughts rather than rational thinking and planning govern our actions and reactions.
This is not the proper way to react to any crisis.
Political expedience must not be a factor when making decisions that effect us all.
I do not understand the complexities of financial world and the crisis on Wall Street and in our nation.
I do understand enough to know that not passing the bail out plan will have an effect on all of us. This was not about letting people off the hook. The bail out plan was, to my limited understanding, a measure that would have benefited us all. I am not here to debate the nuances that I do not understand. But that is the problem. There has been little educating being done. It isn’t that I cannot understand. I am focused elsewhere since I do not have investments. Even not having investments, I know that I will be impacted by this crisis.
But that is my point. We are failing to lead on so many levels. Leaders need to educate in order for us to have confidence in how they react to crisis. We, in the public, are trusting our elected officials to stop the partisan bickering and maneuvering and work diligently, debating earnestly and honestly, with all of our bests interests in mind even when taking measures may benefit one’s political opponent.
If you think this financial crisis is bad and has stirred up the emotions of the people, wait until a pandemic hits and people realize that our political leaders have had an opportunity to educate, to lead, to save lives by telling their constituents that they need to prepare and they failed to lead them.
Criticize the current administration all you like but I will ardently defend this administrations efforts in leading us into awareness of a pandemic. How can I not? Here I am a woman in my own home in a tiny town with no special interest or medical knowledge, yet, I am aware and prepared in most aspects. I know – so the information is out there for anyone to discover and that is to the credit of this administration and the efforts of private citizens who are passionate about saving lives. From the CDC, NIH, and other departments, an effort has been made to encourage people to “take the lead” in their own communities.
The ball has been dropped in some of the other areas of our government that the current administration has no control over. I have written to my elected officials and have not even received a response from any of my inquiries.
We the citizens are taking the lead, we are busy building a response. I wish that I had the pay grade of a member of Congress or a Senator to work with but I do not.
I can’t help it…sometimes I wonder just what these folks do every day.
